In our world, we are exposed to an abundance of perfectly staged images and filter culture every day. We see images that show us everything, but touch us less and less. I want to create a contrast with my artistic work.
My painting is intended to make real life and deeper connections visible again, because authentic, respectful depictions of people are becoming increasingly rare.
With my art, I represent people and their true life stories. My painting is intended to tell these stories that shape us humans.
My aim is to give back importance and appreciation to this unique diversity of real life, to honest emotions.
Every face tells its own personal story, no matter how many years have already been lived. The face of a child can already bear the features of an adult. An adult face shows the experiences of a life already lived. A very aged face may have retained a youthful smile.
A portrait is a lasting memory that becomes more and more valuable with time – something unique that remains, that can generate emotions and touch the heart.
During the process of painting, I immerse myself in the inner world of the person and often sense the presence of the personality. In the process, a new facet can always emerge, so that the personal story is revealed in the intensity of the colours, shapes or lines.
My works are often monochrome because colours can be too loud for some people. For another person, on the other hand, colours are needed to express the special features and uniqueness. With my realistic painting style, the natural beauty, personality and individuality of each face is wonderfully depicted.
I use charcoal, pastel chalks and occasionally oil paints. These materials are ideal for my working methods. Charcoal and chalks are the oldest painting materials we know and, for me, they have lost none of their potential and fascination.
I also regularly create portraits of animals and plants, which appeal to me just as much with their uniqueness. However, exploring humanity and its diversity remains at the heart of my work.
